QR-Code Font and Encoder Overview

QR is a two-dimensional barcode type similar to Data Matrix or Aztec, which is capable of encoding large amounts of data. QR means Quick Response, as the inventor intended the symbol to be quickly decoded. The data encoded in a QR Code may include letters, text, numbers, double-byte characters, URLs and files.

This QR Code barcode generator software a package of QR fonts and components that generate QR barcodes with fonts and graphics. IDAutomation's QR-Code software products support byte, text and numeric encoding modes according to QR Code 2005 and ISO/IEC 18004:2006 specifications. If possible, consider limiting the data encoded in a QR barcode to 800 characters or less because some scanners cannot easily decode large symbols.

• This advanced QR Code barcode font uses IDAutomation Vertical Interleaved Technology™, allowing for increased throughput and printing at small X dimensions. The IDAutomation 2D Barcode Scanner reads QR codes generated as small as 3 points, which is an X dimension of .025CM or 10 mils.
• Custom tilde functions allow an easy method to encode tabs and returns between fields within a QR barcode symbol.
• The source code for any single C#, C++ or Java encoder is provided with the purchase of the Unlimited Developer License and a signed source code license agreement.
• Multiple font formats are provided in a single .zip file for the QR Code Font and Encoder packages. The following font formats are included:
  • TrueType .ttf fonts are supplied in PC and Macintosh format, and are compatible with Macintosh OS X and all versions of Microsoft Windows, including Pocket PC. Macintosh formatted MTT TrueType fonts are compatible with Macintosh System 7.1 and above.
  • OpenType .otf fonts with PostScript outlines are provided. These are compatible with Windows, Macintosh OS X and other systems that support this font format.
  • PostScript Type 1 fonts are supplied in binary, ASCII and Macintosh versions.
  • Also included in this package are PCL 5 laserjet soft fonts from 2-14 points.
  • The Developer License grants the right to convert IDAutomation fonts to other formats as necessary including TrueDoc and OpenType.

Multiple encoders in the QR generator software provide more options for integration into various applications and environments. It is necessary to use an encoder because of the complexity of QR code. Font encoders return a text string that will generate a readable QR code barcode when combined with the appropriate QR font. The features chart below lists the encoders provided with the package.
