"No Image" is displayed after several barcodes are created with the ASP Barcode Server Component for IIS

An IDAutomation update has been issued to the ASP Barcode Server product that solves the barcode issuing a “No Image” message after upgrading to IIS 5.0 and performing security updates with an indeterminate number of calls to the barcode image generator function.

This update was released February 25th, 2003.

If an active Priority Support and Upgrade Subscription is in effect through RegNow, please contact IDAutomation with the order ID number to receive the updated download link. If an active support agreement is in effect through the IDAutomation store, please go back to the store online and go to “My Account”. Enter the user name, which is the email address and the password that created at the time of order. Then when logging in, the invoice should appear on the screen and in the upper right hand corner, there will be a link to “My Downloads”. This will be the location to download the update. To reactivate the Priority Support and Upgrade Subscription, please visit: http://www.idautomation.com/extended/about.html

If a Demo version was installed before the purchased version, perform the procedure below because there are old Demo versions of the product still around that were created prior to the update.

This error can be reproduced with the IDAutomation Linear Load Test ASP file, and can be downloaded here.

Solution(s):

Install the new package; ensuring critical files are replaced.

It is VERY important that the following is completed in the order stated for the update to work:

  1. REBOOT the server, ensuring that no barcode has been created on the server. It is suggested to disconnect the network cable if possible to guarantee this. If a barcode is created with IIS, the files will be locked and will not be replaced by the install utility.
  2. REMOVE the old barcode server package by going to Control Panel – Add/Remove.
  3. INSTALL the new program recently downloaded from Regnow or our store
  4. After installation, verify the dates of the files listed below which should be in the Windows\System32 directory. If the dates are not accurate, remove the barcode server package again via Control Panel, delete the files manually, reboot and reinstall.
    IDAutomationGDI3.dll  (dated February 25, 2003 or later)
    IDAutomationLinear5.dll
(dated December 31, 2002 or later)
(Customers with Linear+2D package, verify the following additional files)
    IDAutomationPDF417e.dll (dated March 7, 2003 or later)
    IDAutomationDMATRIX6.dll
(dated March 21, 2003 or later)
    IDAutomationMaxicode5.dll
(dated January 7, 2003 or later)
  5. REMEMBER, the idalin.asp file and other asp files are different, the new ASP files need to be copied to the appropriate folders as in the install instructions.
