Opening RTF document formatted to use Code 128 or Interleaved 2 of 5
font causes errors in Word.
This error was discovered by someone using IDAutomation's
Crystal Reports
Barcode Font UFL to create reports with the
Interleaved
2 of 5 Barcode Fonts. The error occurred while exporting the report
to an RTF file and then importing the file into Microsoft®
Word. During the import, any barcode containing the number '90' would cause
Word to generate an error and crash. It was determined that certain combinations
of extended characters in RTF documents, used for the barcode fonts, can
cause Word to generate an error. This appears to be an issue with MS Word
and is caused by the encoding of extended characters that are required with
the standard Code 128 or Interleaved 2 of 5 fonts. Encoding Code 128 in
RTF causes the same problem.
This problem does not occur when using the
Universal Barcode
Font. An additional solution is to use something other than RTF
documents or to open in something other than Word. Other options may include
using DOC or PDF files.
