How to encode Function Keys into a barcode

IDAutomation Plug 'n Play SC5USB Barcode Scanner has the capability of encoding function keys into a barcode, providing the F-key emulation option is enabled.

Solution(s):

The built in decoder for the IDAutomation Plug 'n Play SC5USB Barcode Scanner can emulate function keys as well as other keys such as PgUp, PgDn, Backspace, Tab, Enter, Esc, Insert, Delete, Home and End. Simply enable the "Function Key Emulation Mode" by scanning the appropriate barcode in the scanner manual. When enabled, the lower ASCII codes in a Code 128 barcode will simulate pressing a function key on the keyboard. For example, an ASCII 23 digit (0x17 in the manual) encoded in a barcode will send the same codes to the computer as if the F7 function key was pressed. Because the scanner manual only lists hexadecimal numbers, refer to the ASCII chart for conversions.

Standard Code 39 barcodes do not allow for the bar-coding of the lower ASCII characters, the extended Code 39 character set will be needed. The Extended Code 39 fonts are not installed by the initial installation program. The Extended Code 39 fonts will need to be copied from the Extended39 directory folder in the zip file. Then the "Extended Code 39" barcode symbology and "Function Key Emulation Mode" on the SC5USB scanner will have to be enabled.
