The IDAutomation W3USB barcode wand is a cost effective solution for low reading volume applications. The internal decoder and interface eliminates the cost and clutter of a separate decoder box. The advanced optics can scan barcodes as small as 4 mil with a scan velocity of 2-20 inches per second. Its shape gives the W3USB better comfort and handling compared to other pen based barcode readers. Pull the trigger button and sweep the tip of the barcode wand across the barcode in either direction and listen for the beep which indicates that the data has been successfully captured.

The W3USB barcode wand connects via a USB port, perfect for laptops and PDA devices. It contains its own built-in decoder so information scanned appears as if it had been typed from the keyboard. Product Test Results:
This barcode wand reads more barcodes on the first swipe than others lab tested. The benefits of bar code wands include small size, low power and the ability to read long barcodes. However, barcode wands can be more difficult to use than scanners. Wands read bar codes by dragging the tip over the barcode from left to right within the recommended angle and velocity. The tip of the wand must stay on the barcode when dragging it across to get a successful read, therefore, it is not very good at reading very short barcodes of .25" or less in height. Alternatively, a barcode scanner reads the barcode instantly by positioning it over the barcode and pulling the trigger. Wand Programming:
The Plug 'n Play barcode wand is ready to use out of the box in most situations. By default, the common barcode types such as Code 39, 128, UPC and EAN are enabled. The manual provided with the wand allows the ability to program the scanner by scanning bar codes in the manual. There are several scan mode options that can be set, as well as the ability to add preamble or postamble data.
