-
24
Versions Provided - Twenty-four (24) versions of the Interleaved
2 of 5 barcode fonts are provided to support different height/width
requirements, as well as those with bearer bars.
- Industry Standard Support - IDAutomation's Interleaved 2

ANSI USS Interleaved 2 of 5 and European (CEN) standards.
- Multiple Language and Locale Support
- In the event the systems regional setting is not set to "English"
or the 1252 Latin-1 code page, these fonts support the following additional
code pages: 1250 European, 1251 Cyrillic, 1253 Greek, 1254 Turkish,
1255 Hebrew and 1256 Arabic. To obtain a font that is compatible with
any operating system, code page and locale,
purchase or evaluate the
Universal Barcode
Font Advantage™, which creates Interleaved 2 of 5 and many other
barcodes as a single font.
- Multiple Formats Provided - When a license is purchased for
this font package, the customer will receive all versions in a single
ZIP file. The manual is supplied in a file named "Readme.html". The

Symbology Basics:
- Interleaved 2 of 5 (ITF) is a numeric-only barcode used for encoding
pairs of numbers in a high-density barcode format. Interleaved 2 of
5 barcodes always contain an even number of digits because a single
Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode character represents two numbers to achieve
high density. If a number containing an odd number of digits needs to
be encoded, a leading zero must be appended to produce an even number
of digits.
- The symbology of the Interleaved 2 of 5 character set consists of
bar code symbols representing characters 00 to 99 and start-stop characters.
The complete printed barcode consists of a leading quiet zone, a start
pattern, Interleaved 2 of 5 symbols representing data, a stop pattern
and a trailing quiet zone. According to ANSI specifications, the quiet
zones must be 10 times the width of the short bar in the barcode.
- Interleaved 2 of 5 was designed for character self-checking, eliminating
the requirement for checksum characters. However, checksum characters
maximize data integrity and are required by some specifications.
- To learn more, please refer to the
Interleaved 2 of 5
Symbology FAQ.
Symbology Information Relating to Check Digits:
- When Interleaved 2 of 5 is used for ITF-14, EAN-14, SSC-14
and DUN14 bar-codes, a MOD 10 check digit is usually required.
The MOD 10 may be either calculated by IDAutomation's
font automation tools or manually.
Manual calculation is obtained by adding up the odd numbers, multiplying
them by 3, adding up the even numbers, and determining the number that
when added to the sum will produce a multiple of 10. For example, the
check digit for 123456789 is 5 because (3*(1+3+5+7+9))+(2+4+6+8) = 95
and 95 + 5 =100. When calculating check digits, the data to encode should
be an odd number of digits because the check digit is interleaved with
the last digit. IDAutomation recommends using the
Online Font Encoder
to test the results of manual calculations.
- The Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode may also be used as for German Post
Identcode and Leitcode symbols. Identcode and Leitcode
require a unique checksum to be calculated. The calculation is similar
to USS Interleaved 2 of 5 MOD 10 except that even numbers are multiplied
by 9 and odd numbers by 4. For example, the check digit for 12345678901
would be "6" because (4*(1+3+5+7+9+1))+(9*(2+4+6+8+0)=284 and 284 +
6 = 290.

Point Size:
IDAutomation's Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode fonts were created to meet
ANSI and CEN requirements when printing with a font size of 12 or greater.
The X dimension (X is the width of the narrow bar) of IDAutomation's Interleaved
2 of 5 font is listed below for various point sizes. IDAutomation's Interleaved
2 of 5 fonts are specially designed to produce barcodes that consistently
scan when printed at all point sizes with a laser printer that is 600 DPI
or greater in resolution. When printing at resolutions of 300 DPI or less,
IDAutomation recommends the
Universal Barcode
Font Advantage™ which can still produce ANSI grade A barcode symbols
at low resolutions. IDAutomation's Interleaved 2 of 5 fonts are reliably
read with the following hardware:

N Dimension:
The N Dimension (narrow to wide ratio) of this font is fixed at 2.75
to 1. To obtain a font that offers other
ratios, purchase or evaluate
the Universal Barcode
Font Advantage™, which has the ability to print more accurately to low
resolution printers and supports narrow to wide ratios of 2:1, 2.5:1 and
3:1.
Height and Text Interpretation:
Twelve (12) different versions of the Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode fonts
are provided to support human-readable versions and different size requirements.
Fonts with the letter "H" in the font name are "human readable" versions.
Fonts with the letter "B" in the font name are "bearer bar" versions.
The last characters in the name determine the height of the barcode, with
the shortest being "XS" and the tallest being "XXL".
Because each single font may be printed at various point sizes, there are
several height/width combinations that may be produced.

| * Measurements are approximate when printed
at 12 points. Measurements for Human Readable fonts do not include
the text below. At 12 points, the X dimension is about 8 mils.
To print at a different height, find the font that has the
height closest to what is needed and use this formula to find
the appropriate point size:
12 * (height desired) / (height at 12 points) = (point size
converted to integer)
For example, if using IDAutomationI25L and the font should be
.75" tall, print it at 18 points:
12 * .75 / .5 = 18

Printing
with Interleaved 2 of 5 Fonts
|
Printing Interleaved 2 of 5 as a barcode font may be difficult without
one of IDAutomation's Font Tools, due
to the required pairing of digits into single characters and an optional
checksum. If an easier-to-use barcode font is preferred and Interleaved
2 of 5 is not required, consider
IDAutomation's Codabar
barcode font which does not require the pairing of digits into characters.
IDAutomation also provides many
barcode components
that may be easier to implement in applications and development environments
such as Microsoft® Access, Crystal Reports, Visual Basic .NET and Java
due to their ability to automatically calculate the checksum and format
the bar-code.
In the event the systems regional
setting is not set to "English" or the 1252 Latin-1 code page, these
fonts support the following additional code pages in Windows: 1250 European,
1251 Cyrillic, 1253 Greek, 1254 Turkish, 1255 Hebrew and 1256 Arabic.
To obtain a font that is compatible with any operating system, code
page and locale, purchase or
evaluate the
Universal Barcode
Font Advantage™, which creates Interleaved 2 of 5 and many other
barcodes as a single font.
The following character set is provided for developers that wish
to understand how numbers are paired into single digits and where ITF
symbols are located within the font. The "ITF Code" column lists the
character or function that the barcode scanner will read for the associated
symbol. The columns ASCII, Char and Unicode are unique to IDAutomation's
Interleaved 2of 5 fonts. These columns designate the location in either
ASCII or Unicode where the barcode symbol for the character resides.
The column "Char" lists the character that resides at the ASCII location
which may be used to print the corresponding symbol. To manually create
a barcode with this chart, use the following process:
- Include the START character: Ë
- Include the data characters from the char columns that represent
2 numbers from the ITF code column. For example, the number of 772233
is represented in characters n7B
- Include the STOP character: Ì
- Combine the resulting text string with the barcode font:
Ën7BÌ
